Research Interests:

I have been researching the sense of smell in individuals with psychiatric and neurological disorders for 25 years. Using olfactory function as a biomarker, my lab has been examining how we may be able to identify people in the earliest stages of Parkinson's, prior to the onset of motor abnormalities. I run the neuroimaging part of this study. Moreover, I am interested in brain patterns of activation in smokers. We have been using neuroimaging to understand more about how the addiction process hijacks the reward centre in the brain and what we can do to help people who wish to stop smoking.
