Who We Are - DFP

The Department of Family Practice represents approximately 450 Family Physicians who practice within the Nova Scotia Health Authority, where they:

  • Provide medical care in:community practice, hospitals and long term care facilities.
  • Deliver: acute, sub-acute, restorative, transitional, palliative & residential care.
  • Work in: urban, suburban and rural settings.
  • Are: clinicians, mentors, teachers, leaders and researchers.

The Department of Family Practice and Primary Health Care work together to strengthen and support NS Health's primary health care system. Through our Community Master Plan, we are working with others to improve the primary health care experience and contribute to a more sustainable health care system.

The Department of Family Practice is supported by the Community Council (councilors representing community Family Physicians by geographic area) and the DFP Executive Committee (medical leaders representing family physicians and family practice initiatives by area of care).
