May 2013 - KUDOS!

Drs. Laurie Mallery and Paige Moorhouse have been honoured with two prestigious national health care awards: a 3M Health Care Quality Team Award, in the category of Programs and Processes in a Non-acute Care Environment and a Public Sector Leadership Award – gold in the health category – from the Institute of Public Administration of Canada for their work with the PATH program. PATH stands for Palliative and Therapeutic Harmonization. It identifies frailty in elderly patients and helps them, their families and caregivers make health care decisions that are in the best interests of the patient’s quality of life.

Barbara Hall, vice president, Person Centred Health, has been honoured with the 2013 Canadian College of Health Leaders Mentorship Award. This award is presented to a leader in the health care system who demonstrates exemplary, sustained commitment to mentoring, and inspiring health care leadership. See a picture from the awards.

Capital Health’s 2013 Poster Fair was held June 6. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who entered a poster. There were almost 60 entries.

Nicole Holland, Interpretation and Language Services Coordinator  at Capital Health, was nominated to the Administrative Council of Réseau Santé-Nouvelle Écosse (French Health Network of Nova Scotia) on May 24, 2013. This is a wonderful opportunity for Capital Health to collaborate with other members of the health care sector and the Francophone community to improve access to French language health services.

Stacey Squires has accepted the position as Karen Mumford’s administrative assistant with the Perioperative/Ophthalmology/Tissue Bank Portfolio. Kudos also to Donna McInnis who recently retired after 35 years of service.

Dr. Alan Cruess has been recognized by Bayer as a Canadian innovator who exemplifies the curiosity and commitment to help shape a better future. He and 300 others, ranging from educators and research scientists, to leaders in business and philanthropy, were honoured at a special ceremony May 28. Dr Cruess was honoured for his work with eye treatment - wet macular degeneration. See a picture from the awards.

Kristy Bulger has accepted the position of patient flow manager for the QEII. Kristy will be working with Karen Nicholls and together will cover 12 hours/day, 7 days/week in a rotational schedule. The Patient Flow Managers can be reached through pager 1049.

Dr. Graeme Rocker, Head of Respirology, has been named Clinical Improvement Advisor to the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI). Dr. Rocker will support and guide improvement work across the Foundation including CFHI’s three-year, multi-provincial Atlantic Healthcare Collaboration (AHC) and the development of a clinical engagement strategy for the Foundation.
