Health, Dental and Basic Life Insurance Benefit Premium Holiday!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015 - 11:05am

We are pleased to share some good news about the NSHA Central Zone Benefit Program. There were no health, dental nor Basic Life insurance benefit cost increases in 2015.

Why have results improved over the past year?  One reason is that Central Zone employees are becoming wiser consumers of health and dental care services.  Asking questions of your service providers and shopping around for the best value on prescription drugs and other services can make a difference.  Generic drugs replacing brand name drugs has also resulted in lower drug claims which make up approximately 65 per cent of your total health claims.

Congratulations!  We all benefit from stable rates.  As a result of your good work, there will be a benefit premium holiday for the February pay dates (pay deposit dates of Feb 4 & 18) for employees enrolled in the health and/or dental plan(s).  Normal payroll deductions will start again for the March pay periods. If you have Health benefits, Travel premiums will be deducted on the February pays.

Basic Life has also seen a stable pattern over the past year.  As a result, we are able to have a premium holiday on the Basic Life Insurance benefit as well (A D & D premiums will continue to be deducted).  As these premiums are lower, the premium holiday will involve more pays; namely,  pays two through seven of 2016 [pay days of Jan 21, Feb 4 and 18, Mar 3, 17 and 31].
