LifeLines: Mediator Appointed - April 20, 2012

  • This afternoon, the Nova Scotia government announced that it has appointed a mediator to the labour-management dispute between Capital Health and NSGEU Local 42. View news release
    • We expect to hear from the mediator soon to discuss timing of a meeting. We will co-operate fully.
    • It is our desire to avoid a strike and further disruption to patient care; however, it is our responsibility to continue to plan for a strike as of Wednesday, April 25, at 12:01 a.m. Further updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
  • Capital Health moves into the final preparations for a likely strike, patient safety continues to be our top priority.
    • Where it can be done safely, inpatients are being discharged to their homes, long-term care, home districts and home provinces.
    • Sections of our hospitals will be closing to ensure the safety of our inpatients.
  • The District Emergency Operations Group will continue meeting over the weekend.
    • Starting Tuesday, hospital care will focus on situations where life is in danger.
    • Diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests and pharmacy, among many other professional support roles, will only be available on an urgent and emergency basis beginning Wednesday, April 25.
