LifeLines: Postponement Impact - April 25, 2012

Wednesday, April 25, 2012 - 11:18am

NSGEU Local 42 has postponed a potential strike until Thursday, April 26, at 7 a.m.

What does this mean?

  • Mediation between NSGEU Local 42 and Capital Health continues today.
  • All employees are expected to come to work today.
  • Schedules that have been submitted to the NSGEU for staffing levels in the event of a strike do not need to be reworked or resubmitted to the union.  Managers should use the originally submitted schedules to best meet the needs of their patients.

Reducing patient impact

Until we have a resolution, we must maintain the bed closures currently in place.

  • Outpatient or day surgeries that do not require beds and can be scheduled and completed safely before the end of the day today can be done today. These decisions will be made jointly by the physician and administrative co-leads in each area.
  • Walk-in services such as lab, blood collection and diagnostic imaging (x-ray, etc.) remain open today.
  • We have shifted to providing patients 24-hour notice of cancellations rather than 48 hours.  At this point we are not cancelling patient procedures scheduled for Friday. We will revisit this decision as we receive information from mediation today.

There is a media briefing today at 1:30 p.m. Watch live webcast
