Provincial Radiopharmacy officially opens

Wednesday, January 14, 2015 - 12:32pm

The official opening of the Provincial Radiopharmacy was held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary. Guests had an opportunity to tour the new facility, followed by speeches and refreshments.

The Provincial Radiopharmacy is a coordinated, cooperative and cost-effective distribution model for medical isotopes in Nova Scotia. Isotopes for all DHAs (except Yarmouth and Sydney) are now stored in and distributed from the central Capital Health location. The new delivery method is expected to reduce medical isotope consumption by 40 per cent while still supporting the same level of care. The Radiopharmacy also allows for the standardization of nuclear medicine supplies by merging 10 supply contracts into one.
