Need a Family Practice - New Provincial 811 Process
On November 1st the Nova Scotia Health Authority launched the new Need a Family Practice service. Nova Scotians who do not have access to a family practice, such as a family doctor or nurse practitioner, can call 811 Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to add your name and contact information to a provincial wait list. You can also visit needafamilypractice.ca to register yourself online. If you have a Nova Scotia Health card, please have it ready during registration. Individuals on the wait list will be contacted directly by a family practice in your community when a spot becomes available. Time to receive a call back will vary based on community and availability of providers.
If you have called before November 1st to have your name added to a local wait list through Nova Scotia Health Authority, you will automatically be moved over to the new list. You will maintain your order of priority based on the date of your original call. Automated calls are being made to confirm those who already have their name on the list.

For access to non-emergency health information and services, dial 8-1-1 to speak with a registered nurse.
Ask a Family Member
Some family practices accept family members of current patients. We suggest speaking with your family members to see if they will ask their health care provider if you could become a patient there.
