What to Expect in the Emergency Department

Your health and well-being is our primary concern.

Arrival

When you arrive our triage personel will measure your:

  • Pulse
  • Blood pressure
  • Temperature
  • Breathing

We will also ask about:

  • Any allergies
  • Current medications
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Health card number
  • Other health insurance plans
  • Family doctor's name
  • Emergency contact phone number

All of this information will be recorded and given to the health care team in charge of your care.

Please note

Patients with the most urgent conditions must be seen first. This may cause some delay in your care. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you may be asked to sit in the waiting room. Please be assured you will be seen as quickly as possible.

Treatment

When you are brought into the treatment area, a member of your health care team will do a more thorough assessment of your condition. Depending on the severity of your condition, the physician in charge of your care will discuss your treatment options and make any follow-up arrangements or referrals as necessary. You may also be referred to a consulting physician or a specialist who will decide whether or not you need to be admitted to the hospital.

Other concerns

If you or your loved ones need religious or spiritual support, our spiritual care team is available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

Our patient representatives are also available for any other questions or concerns you may have.
