Floseal®, Hemostatic Matrix

What is it?

Floseal is made of gelatin and human thrombin. Thrombin is a protein that helps your blood clot. Gelatin is another kind of protein found in many parts of your body.

How is it given?

Floseal is applied using a syringe. It is put directly on the part of your body that needs it.

What are the benefits?

Floseal can stop bleeding in two minutes. It forms a very strong clot because the gelatin fills in the wound first and then the thrombin causes a clot to form around the gelatin.

What are the risks or side effects?

If Floseal enters a blood vessel it could cause clotting inside the blood vessel. There is a risk of disease and catching a virus because it is made from plasma components. There is also a risk of infection or allergic reaction.
