Student/Employee

The role of the student/employee is to engage with staff, patients, and other students/learners in their area and embrace the learning opportunities that present themselves during the course of their placement. 

Responsibilities…

  • Provides their educational institution/employer with proof of all required immunizations listed in Capital Health’s Pre-placement Immunization Requirements CH 100-026 policy.
  • Provides their educational institution/employer with their Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search. (Note: the Vulnerable Sector Search must be specifically requested when applying for a Criminal Records Check)
  • Returns a signed and dated placement agreement with their signature witnessed and the name of their educational institution/employer and program stated
  • Reads Capital Health’s Pledge of Confidentiality and then detachs it and keeps it in their files for review prior to and during, their placement at Capital Health
  • Reviews all information in the Student/Learner Orientation section relevant to their type of placement before beginning their placement.
  • Follows the guidance of the clinical instructor or staff preceptor and the policies and procedures of Capital Health
  • Introduces him/herself as a student/learner to staff, patients and their family and provides the name of the preceptor or Nursing Clinical Instructor who is supervising them.
  • As appropriate, documents all patient/client care activity on the patient/client record and report it to the preceptor.
  • Ensures the preceptor oversees any skill/activity in which the student has not been deemed competent by the preceptor.
  • Notifies the unit/department and their educational institution/employer of any absence from the placement.
