Donor Screening & Referral
- Any health care team member may call the donor coordinator with a referral for a potential organ or tissue donor or with questions about donation
- Referral leads to evaluation for medical suitability to determine donation options
- Age is not an exclusion factor for organ donation (for individuals who meet brain death criteria)
- Potential tissue donors must be 80 years of age or less but may donate following cardio-respiratory or brain death
- Medical screening of potential donors includes social history obtained from a family member or close friend of the donor
- Education sessions on any topic related to organ and tissue donation can be arranged by the donor coordinator
